    The Director level Relationship Manager (“RM”) will provide a primary point of contact to a portfolio of existing private equity owned and/or industry relationships of varying size and complexity to identify cross sell opportunities and manage the delivery of CIT’s ancillary products.  Working closely with the financial sponsor coverage and/or industry bankers and product specialists, the RM will develop a thoughtful relationship plan to deepen existing portfolio relationships. 


    In addition, the RM will originate new (non-sponsor, non-industry) to bank business, identify and cross sell ancillary business opportunities, and provide support to credit team on underwriting new deals.  Primary market coverage will be Northeast region.


    Job Responsibilities

    • On PE owned and/or industry relationships, the RM will assess the addressable financial wallet and work closely with product specialists to identify solutions and increase cross sell.
    • The RM will work closely with the financial sponsor coverage banker and/or industry specialist to ensure a seamless client experience.
    • The RM will also be responsible developing new business for active market coverage of prospective clients through Centers of Influence (“COI’s”) network and direct calling efforts to achieve new business goals to generate new and incremental margin and fee-based income from both credit and non-credit ancillary product sales, including Deposits/Treasury Management, Capital Markets, Derivatives, Foreign Exchange and Capital Equipment Finance.
    • Partner with other CIT businesses (i.e. Capital Equipment Finance) to seamlessly deliver comprehensive solutions to support overall client and franchise objectives.
    • The RM, with support from the Underwriting and Portfolio Management team will structure, underwrite, close and manage new non-sponsor, non-industry credit opportunities, recognize early warning signs in the portfolio and closely monitor client’s financial performance to anticipate changes in risk rating.
    • Proactively identify issues and restructure deals to mitigate potential future risk.
    • The RM will need to be able to both delegate and work closely and effectively with the Underwriting and Portfolio Management team to proactively serve the needs of the clients, while expanding the relationships and growing the overall portfolio.
    • Demonstrate strong and visible leadership and foster positive attitudes and trust among clients, prospects, and employees.
    • Maintain frequent interaction with centers of influence (both external and internal), industry associations, community leaders, and senior business contacts.
    • Strictly adhere to internal organizational and control policies, including, but not limited to CIT account opening procedures (BSA, KYC,AML) of accurate collection, completion and updating of all required documentation.



    • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred.

    • Minimum of 10+ years of relationship management experience in the commercial and corporate banking market.

    • Formal credit training required.

    • Proven track record of originating, underwriting and managing commercial and corporate banking relationships, including single bank and syndicated deals.
    • Experience in managing portfolio of relationships with demonstrated ability to increase ancillary business.
    • Experience in structuring and closing new deals, including cash flow and asset based lending.
    • Experience working as sole bank or lead arranger to pitch, negotiate, and execute transactions that raise capital.
    • Must have in-depth knowledge of banking products and services for clients in the commercial and corporate banking market.

    • Demonstrate strong financial and analytic skills and ability to rapidly assimilate complex information.
    • Possess superior communication, persuasion, and influence skills that facilitate successful client pitches and proposals.
